Work:
My name’s David Jolly, I’m a 21 year old singer/songwriter from Glasgow, currently based in Perth. After writing and performing my songs alone for the last couple of years, I am now playing with a band called ‘The Lonely Whale.’ The Lonely Whale stand out with our catchy pop/rock like hooks, memorable lyrics and vocal harmonies. We blend elements of folk into our songs which is most prominent in Simple Song (Shivering), which includes a mouth organ hook and simple, catchy lyrics and Beautiful Tragedy – a piano based ballad in which my natural Scottish accent is highlighted by the lyrical story. Finally, our versatility can be heard in I’ll Never Be King, which has a reggae groove in the verse, accompanied by memorable chorus and Phantom Island, which shows our optimistic attitude and ability to create a sing-a-long. I have played a variety of venues throughout Glasgow including The Bay and The Butterfly & Pig, Pivo Pivo, Linen 1906, Maggie Mays, Cathouse etc. As well as a number of local gigs such as Bishopbriggs Cycle Festival (where I provided the music for the whole event) and Bishopbriggs Gala Day each year. I also played in George Square (Glasgow) for Hear Glasgow's "Glasgow Love's Christmas" event on 22/12/11. I produced my first solo EP earlier in 2011 - Life, Lies & Lullabys. It is available to buy for £2. The £2 goes towards making my money back after the amount that was spent producing it. I had some newspaper coverage for this release which can be found here: http://www.kirkintilloch-herald.co.uk/lifestyle/lifestyle-leisure/next_gig_thing_august_31_2011_1_1820232 You can also check my stuff out at www.soundcloud.com/thedeej or www.reverbnation.com/davidjollyofficial
Education:
I'm currently a student at Perth College, which is part of the University of the Highlands and Islands, studying a degree in popular music. I recieved my HND from North Glasgow College before I moved up to carry on my education. This year I am researching Songwriting Methodologies which is a subject I have chosen as I have great interest in it. I plan on staying at university next year in order to achieve my honours.
