David Stark

Hi. I've been in involved in music all my life, beginning with cornet (not 'coronet', as this site calls it!) in Primary 3 and right up through the years, playing in brass bands, school orchestras (by now I had got hold of a trumpet) and eventually the Glasgow Schools Orchestra, the Strathclyde Schools Symphony Orchestra (in the days when there was one), NYOS and Camerata Scotland. Finally I went to York to study Music Technology but eventually switched to music, so that I could concentrate on performance practice. 

My culture high-point was obviously the three years I spent blasting my horn at Ibrox, as part of the official Rangers brass band. Getting pelted by pies and requests for unplayable 'historic' anthems was what my music degree had been all about!

So I switched to life behind the scenes - best decision ever! - and have been (i) a computer music typesetter (ii) orchestral librarian (iii) events co-ordinator (iv) arts administrator (v) Sibelius tutor (the computer programme, not the composer!) (vi) Marketing Manager for Scottish Opera. I eventually ended up with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, as their Director of Marketing and Communications. Great fun!

Now I work as a freelancer, helping musicians and music organisations with their marketing and website needs.
