Interview with Singer-songwriter, Carly Connor

How would you describe your ‘Job’?

Not a job! Just one big party!

How did you get to where you are now?
Sacrifices, focus, determination and practicing like mad!

Did you study any music courses at college or uni?
I did sound production and radio for a few years when I left school.

Did you ever go to music lessons?
When I was younger I got guitar lessons in primary. I've been to loads of vocal coaches and I went to a few different drama schools too but singing is my main love!

Do you give music lessons? Run Workshops?
No

What was the first gig you ever went to?
Does the singing kettle count? Other than that it was the black lips in abc 2 in Glasgow. Got my heart racing!

What was the first gig you ever played?
First proper paid gig was when I was 11 in Glasgow and I was playing soul covers like Aretha Franklins R.E.S.P.E.C.T & Tina & Ike Turner's 'River deep mountain high'

What was your first big break?
Meeting my managers when I was 16! Then my record deal when I was 17!

How did you find bands/other musicians/gigs?
Through my dad mostly he's a big music lover! He showed me loads of new bands old bands. My mum got me gigs when I was 11-15 before I met my managers! I went to music courses in college so I met loads of musicians through that!

Three word to describe your thoughts on music…
The best escape!
